Now accepting applications for up to $25,000 in funding and services to support innovative community programs!
Since 2011, DC Social Innovation Project has provided funding and pro bono services to support the launch and development of ten innovative community programs. Now, we are looking for the next programs that will seek to tackle a pressing social issue in Washington, DC in a bold and unique way.
DCSIP supports early-stage community programs that go beyond the typical; we want to see how traditional programs can be enhanced or altered in order to have a disruptive effect on the issues they seek to address. Our goal is to help community members and organizations secure the resources to implement programs that have the power to transform our community.
Through this call for applications, we are looking for programs in the following categories:
- Programs that use technology and digital learning as a tool to equip individuals with skills and credentials that will enhance their ability to succeed academically or in the job market. Programs in this category may serve any population in any part of Washington, DC (preference will be given to programs serving individuals in Ward 8).
- Programs targeting issues in the areas of health (includes access to healthy food, physical fitness, combating illness/disease, hunger prevention), youth and education (includes mentoring, juvenile justice, K-12 education, college or career prep), or economic opportunity (includes entrepreneurship and small-business development, job training, poverty alleviation). Programs in this category may serve any population in any part of Washington, DC.
Whether in the idea, pilot, or expansion phase, the most promising applicant(s) will each receive up to $25,000 in funding and strategic assistance. This will include: (1) a grant of up to $3,000 provided with the support of the Kimsey Foundation, (2) a team of consultants with expertise in strategic planning and operations, and (3) ongoing trainings and pro bono support such as legal services and marketing assistance.
Existing non-profits or anyone with a solid idea can apply. Applications will be judged based on potential social impact; financial feasibility and sustainability; collaboration with local government agencies, non-profits, or businesses; leadership ability of the individual or team; boldness and originality of the idea; and enthusiasm and connection to the community to be served. Following the application deadline, there will be an online voting period where the public may vote for their favorite applicant. The outcome of these votes does not determine the grant winners but will help the review committee determine traction and support in the community for each applicant. The final decision on applications will be made by DCSIP’s board of directors.
